By Benjamin Shapiro
The glasses clink

As revellers drink

New day dawning

Here I’m fawning

As syncopated drum

Complements guitar’s strum

And bass keeping time

While a songstress rhymes.

Glitter sparkles upon dress

As inhibitions become less

And the movement of feet

Match the quickening beat.

Smiles fill jazz soaked room

Hearts zig-zag and zoom

Champagne helps them move along,

But credit goes to Basie’s songs

As Billie crows nothing goes wrong

And we jitterbug… All. Night. Long.
