From a chronically depressed guy:
It’d be nice if chronic depression stopped getting this romantic/noble treatment all the time. It’s not romantic to not want to get out of bed, to feel nothing; not just sad, but absolutely nothing. It’s not romantic to try to come up with reasons to struggle through instead of giving up. And it certainly isn’t noble to commit suicide then guilt trip an entire community. Sure, outside factors push one towards suicide, but it is the mental illness that finalizes it. This kind of crap always stings me, because it’s a superficial understanding of a deeply complex issue. It’s pop psychology at its worst.
